Premise[edit]

“Trust Me, I'm Lying” by Ryan Holiday is one of those books that not only you will not feel the same after reading it, but also you should not act the same. Look at the way he describes himself: “I am, to put it bluntly, a media manipulator—I’m paid to deceive. Merritt, Daniel R. Two comedic hosts try to deceive contestants with unique/odd/implausible statements; one is telling the truth and another is lying. The contestant must decide which fact presented by the hosts is the truth in order to win money.[6][7][8] After a few chances of guessing which host they trust is telling the truth, the contestant gets an opportunity to choose a true fact from a range of statements to add an additional $20,000 to their winnings.[9]

Stop being so talented

12 December 2021

I'm deeply envious of talented people. Naturally talented people. I sometimes wish they could stop being so talented, so less talented people like myself can work at getting to their level.

If I look around, it seems like everyone around me is naturally talented.

But the more I critically evaluate their talent, there's a lot which is attributed to experience, learning from failing and hard yakka (putting in the hours to get good).

There's some form of intelligence which I think is associated with understanding one's strengths and weaknesses, and consistently acting on what needs to be done to strengthen those capabilities.

Not all strengths need to be strengthened. Not all weaknesses need to be amended. There's art in understanding which to build upon.

The other part is actually putting in the work. By work I mean - being okay starting with scrappy. Being okay with shipping work that isn't to the standard of the best writer in the world. Being okay with playing the long game.

I'd rather be playing the long game than no game at all.
